A lot of people know Wesleyans (or Methodists) tend to talk about salvation in terms of prevenient, justifying, and sanctifying grace. But did you know there's a lot more to it than just those three? I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Bill Ury and discuss the finer points of how Wesleyans understand salvation.
We get into the nature of grace (it's not a thing!) and talk in detail about the relational and interpersonal dynamics of salvation. We also highlight a few distinctions between a Wesleyan understanding and some other theological systems along the way. Click the blue button to watch it on YouTube.
Along with his wife, Diane, Dr. Bill Ury serves as National Ambassador for Holiness with the Salvation Army. He is a sought after speaker and author of multiple books, which include Christology as Theology, The Bearer: Forgiving as Christ, and Trinitarian Personhood. Before coming to the Salvation Army, Bill served as a pastor and was a professor of theology at Wesley Biblical Seminary for 25 years.
Dr. Matt O’Reilly (Ph.D., Gloucestershire) is Lead Pastor of Christ Church in Birmingham, Alabama, Director of Research at Wesley Biblical Seminary, and a fellow of the Center for Pastor Theologians. A two-time recipient of the John Stott Award for Pastoral Engagement, he is the author of multiple books including Free to Be Holy: A Biblical Theology of Sanctification, Paul and the Resurrected Body: Social Identity and Ethical Practice, The Letters to the Thessalonians, and Bless the Nations: A Devotional for Short-Term Missions.
